Tutoring

Benefits of Tutoring

Wondering if the benefits of tutoring outweigh the logistics of finding a tutor and getting your child to and from sessions? I assure you they do. I’m going to share my favorite tips for working with a tutor as well as the benefits of tutoring.

Benefits of Tutoring: An Extra Pair of Eyes

Each of us has our own, unique perspective to share and that benefits the children with whom we work. In a tutoring session with me, they build upon instruction they’ve gotten from their teacher and from you, their parent. Instruction from multiple people creates well-rounded students.

Another benefit of tutoring is that it gives another pair of eyes to your student’s work. I might see something their teacher doesn’t.

Benefits of Tutoring: Support at a Different Level

Students in my Tutoring with Mrs. D service, are working one-on-one with me. This is awesome! It lets me tailor instruction to their needs and their interests. I also work directly with your child’s teacher. This allows me to ask what they’re seeing in class. Using that data helps target my tutoring sessions.

Bonus: Flexibility in Scheduling

We teacher/tutors are working around our teaching schedules. My school-year tutoring sessions meet on weekdays after school and on select Saturdays. Summer sessions get a little more flexible. Since your kiddo is also in school, this works great! Plus, it makes it easier for mamas and daddies who work.

Tips for Working with a Tutor

When working with a tutor, I suggest scheduling a call with them to make sure your child’s needs and your tutor’s educational philosophy/approach align.

Once you’ve selected a tutor, make sure that you’re aware of all payment policies and contractual obligations you have.

Check in with your child and make sure that you’re communicating with the tutor (and vice-versa) to ensure the highest possible chance of success. Is your tutor tracking progress? They should be!
